Legislative Update: Jan 16, 2007

Today was a long day with my last appointment at 4 PM. I originally had 8 appointments but 2 cancelled at the last minute.  Responses were from one end of the scale to the other, from a new Assemblyman who was very interested in our issues to one who was absolutely clueless not only as regards motorcycles   but with the role of a legislator and possibly life  in general.  Things are starting to settle down to a more even keel, with groups of lobbyists starting to crop up (soon it will be chaos on Tuesdays).  It seems to be more difficult these days to get appointments, possibly because most of the people I've dealt with thus far are new and haven't developed a routine yet. I prefer to make appointments in person as it is usually easier, but today was another day of  "leave your number and we'll call you".  Right now I'm waiting on 11 callbacks and only have 3 appointments for next Tuesday. Of course these are all people I haven't dealt with before so that explains part of it, staff members who have seen me for years are much more accommodating. Consequently, I will spend the rest of the week on the phone and I'm confident I'll have a full schedule for the 23rd.  Somehow, it always seems to work out.
