Legislative Update: Feb 27, 2007

Due to last week's holiday, I was only able to make 4 appointments for today and 1 of them wound up being a no-show and had to be rescheduled.  Still, I was there until 3:30, and made as much use of the day as I was able.  Bottom line: Assemblyman Hawley who supports all our bills, staff of the Senate Minority Leader who was able to relate to our issues and promised to pass our info on to the Senator, and Senator Dave Valesky, who replaced our old friend, Nancy Larraine Hoffmann and has been with us right from day one. The Senator was tied up in budget hearings, but I had a nice chat with one of his top staff members, and I know that Dave is in our corner.

The Senate Transportation Committee met today, but nothing of interest was on the agenda. The Assembly Transportation Committee did not meet.  With the long gaps between appointments, I was able to review 2 weeks worth of bill summaries and discovered only 1 new bill, A5376, companion to Senate S796 which would exempt helmets from sales tax. I am still anticipating the introduction of several other bills.
