Legislative Update: February 7, 2006

By: Prospector

This Tuesday, Feb 7th was pretty much a routine day in Albany.

We signed on a cosponsor to Donna Lupardo's Confiscation Bill # A8588.

Last year we expressed concern to the sponsor of bill # A1073 which would have outlawed any bike with a seat height under 24". The intent of this bill was to outlaw "pocket" bikes. We said there needed to be a better definition of pocket bikes other than just seat height. We were asked to come up with a better description so the bill could be amended, which we did. We are now informed that the bill has been dropped.

There is still a Senate version,#S2394, but without an Assembly companion bill, it will die at the end of this Legislative Session.

We have been meeting with members of the Assembly Transportation Committee and sponsors of the Yield bill, #A4914A to advise them of the status of the bill and enlist their help in breaking the logjam it's caught up in. The Transportation Committee hasn't met yet due to illness of the chairman.

We have a full schedule of appointments for next Tuesday and will continue our efforts.
