Legislative Update: April 24, 2007

By: Prospector

Today's bad news is that the proposed ban on children under 12 as passengers has come back as A7098.  The good news is that it's still a
one-house bill and the deadline for introduction of new Senate bills is fast approaching. More good news is that there is now an Assembly red light bill, A7568, introduced on Friday by Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.  I had 7 Assembly appointments today, 2 with  new members. I believe it's good policy to welcome Freshmen Legislators as soon as they arrive in Albany and to introduce ourselves and  describe ABATE and it's function.  Both of those meetings went well.

As promised, I attended the Assembly Transportation Committee meeting today where A1939 reported out after a short discussion and will now go to Codes where we don't anticipate a problem, and, in fact, we expect easy passage on the Assembly floor by the end of session.  Immediately after the meeting, I went to the office of the Senate sponsor to inform them that the bill is on the move in the Assembly and was assured by Senior Staff that he has already taken the necessary steps to get S1705 on the Senate Transportation Committee agenda and will follow through to get it done.

I will be leaving Thursday morning for Killington, Vermont to attend the MRF conference; "Beast of the East".
